Arrive at Taipei Taoyuan International airport. Taiwan is shaped like a leaf that is narrow at both ends. It lies off the southeastern coast of mainland Asia, across the Taiwan Strait from China-- an island on the western edge of the Pacific Ocean. To the north is Japan; to the south is the Philippines. Taiwan lies on the western edge of the Pacific "rim of fire with majestic peaks, rolling hills and plains, basins, coastlines, and other natural landscapes. The country has about 18,400 species of wildlife on the island. Taiwan has 8 national parks and 13 national scenic areas to preserve Taiwan's best natural ecological environment and cultural sites. After breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed for city tour – starting with the grandiose CKS Memorial Hall in downtown Taipei to pay homage to the late President. Then visit the National Palace Museum which houses the world‟s largest and most valuable collection of Chinese art treasures and permanent displays of ceramics, porcelain, paintings, enamelware, carvings etc. Then proceed by coach to Nantou for the popular Sun Moon Lake area - The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area is praised for its five major recreational systems, including the lake. The surrounding areas stretch to cover known tourist spots including Taumi, Checheng, Jiji, Shueisheda Mountain, Sangyong Falls, Mingtan Reservoir and Shueili River. Divided by Lalu Island, the Sun Moon Lake scenic area got its name from the unique terrains that look like sun on one side and crescent moon on the other. Crowned as one of the Eight Wonders of Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake is also the most famous source of hydroelectric power; offering key tourist themes - “high mountain and lake”, “indigenous culture”, and ”nature ecology,” the Sun Moon Lake Scenic Area attracts more than six million visits each year. Sun Moon Lake features the only fullrange 3D tours (lake, sky and land) in Taiwan. The lake cycling trail has been dubbed by CNNGO, CNN as one of the most beautiful cycling trails in the world and the 14 lake trails are the top choices for sightseeing and leisure activities. The natural forests are good places for bird watching. There are lots of walking and biking trails here as well as gardens, waterfalls, shopping and delicacies, restaurant, handmade pottery art, traditional band and dance performances, recreation areas, tribal tours, etc. Lots of festivals are celebrated here like the Sun Moon Lake festival in September with fireworks, Aboriginal Cherry Blossom festival in February, Thao Harvest festival during the Chinese New Year period etc. Take a boat cruise experience. Then proceed to visit the Wenwu Temple over here - Wenwu Temple is located at the shoulder of mountain which is on the north of Sun Moon Lake. It was built in 1938. People worried the water of Sun Moon Lake might cover Longfeng Temple and Ihuatang of Shuishotsun and they built the Wenwu Temple. Then proceed by coach to Taichung which is a modern dynamic Asian city marked by broad boulevards and high rise apartments and towers. It is Taiwan‟s third largest city having a mild and pleasant year round climate. Taichung has saved many of the city‟s historic sites and retains the original “chessboard” street plan from the Japanese era. Among the many sites of interest in the city are the 200 year old Lecheng Temple, the ornate and much visited Chenghuang Temple and the 3 hall style Wanhe Temple and lots more. In addition to this Taichung also offers plenty to satisfy one‟s thirst for arts, culture and learning including the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. There are also a number of department stores and distinctive shopping areas and boutiques. The European style Jingming shopping district impart Taichung with a fashionable elegance that recalls the Champs Elysees in Paris. Late evening visit the Fengjia Night Market - The Fengjia Night Market is one of Taichung's famous commercial business districts, covering approximately one kilometer in diameter around Feng Chia University and includes the Fengjia-Wenhua Night Market, Fengjia Rd., and Fuxing Rd. After breakfast, check out and transfer to the station to take the Taiwan High Speed Rail back to Taipei (1 hour). Arrive at Taipei and take the coach to Yilan. The city of Yilan is located in the central and most favored part of the Lanyang Plain and is the breadbasket county. Yilan looks out to the sea on Taiwan's Northeast Coast, with mountains on the three other sides forming a unique geography that has nurtured an equally distinctive cultural landscape and human warmth. The county is home to Asia's second longest highway tunnel, the Hsuehshan Tunnel, which has reduced the driving time between Yilan and Taipei to less than 50 minutes. From natural environments and cold and hot springs to a wealth of ocean recreation resources and verdant country scenes, Yilan offers the perfect setting to slow down and enjoy nature at its best. Among Yilan's diverse arboreal attractions, the Qilan Sacred Trees Garden is one of the most unique. The garden is home to a hundred indigenous trees over a millennium old, including Formosan red false cypresses and Taiwan hinoki false cypresses. As an options one can also enjoy Whale and Dolphin Watching. Surrounded by submarine hot springs that emit steam all year round, Guishan Island is a rare sight in the Pacific. The sea area here is a favorite haunt for whales and dolphins. The dolphins can often be seen jumping and spinning above the water in groups like ballet dancers, presenting a spectacle far different from what one sees at marine parks. Night Market Snacking - tasty dishes and more can be enjoyed at the Luodong Night Market and Yilan Night Market. There are also plenty of shops here selling inexpensive clothes and shoes. Besides this there are Cold and Hot Springs. For a relaxing hot spring soak, visitors to Yilan County can choose between the lowland hot springs of Jiaoxi Township and the carbonic acid cold springs in Su'ao Township, one of only two cold springs in Southeast Asia. The clear and tasteless spring water pampers your skin and embraces you, body and mind, in a world of relaxation. The county is lush with waterfalls, lakes, rivers and botanical gardens. There is swimming, surfing, white water rafting or simply taking in the scenery. In Yilan visit the – National Traditional Arts Center. This new 24 hectare facility is located besides the beautiful Dongshan river. In addition to organized displays and performances of culture and art, it also provides a stage where performing artists can show off their creative works. You can stroll casually amongst artistic creations, listen to elegant music and enjoy exciting opera performances. From the Center you can take a boat and visit the Dongshan River Water Park. Then visit the Kavalan Whisky Winery which is the first place in Taiwan which has the capability of producing tremendous whisky and making it sold all over the world. It is very comfortable to walk along the huge garden and enjoy the timeless moment. In Kavalan Whisky Winery, people could deeply understand the process of brewing whisky. Every visitor is witness to seeing the brewing of the whisky and also get an opportunity to have a sip of the delicious premium whisky. Then visit the Jiaosi Hot Springs – this is a popular tourist destination for hot spring baths and delicacies since the Japanese colonial period.
